Tips for Getting Good Search Results

  • Think about the situation in terms of the search criteria.
  • Start with the ideal combination. While the search results may be small, you may have found the one person in the country (or at least who is on the roster) who has the unique combination of experience and qualities you seek ideally.
  • Identify which of the criteria are the most important and begin to broaden or narrow your search results based on the priorities.
  • Try different combinations of criteria by refining your results or doing a new search
  • Remember that the search results are a place to START gathering information-a basis from which to identify practitioners to whom you can direct specific questions or requests in order to gather more information.
  • Remember that if you do not find a practitioner or practitioners who meet a specific set of criteria, you can still get assistance from the Institute by emailing or calling the Roster Manager (520-901-8552 or roster@ecr.gov). The Roster Manager may be able to locate someone through other sources of referral.
  • Hold the "control" key on PC ("command" on MAC) to select more than one criterion in a drop-down box.
  • To delete a selection in a drop-down box, hold the "control key" on PC ("command" on MAC) and click the selection.
  • When refining a search that included Foreign Countries (in the Geographic Areas) clear the countries drop-down box by clicking "countries" at the top of the list)
  • Use the "Refine Search" and "New Search" buttons on the search results page and the "Back to Search Results" button on the Practitioner Profile to navigate around the search site rather than the "Back" function on your browser. "Log Out" will take you to the USIECR home page.
  • When searching by name only, you must spell both names correctly. If do not get a match, try using just the first name or just the last name.
  • Remember the search results (the list of practitioners) lists the practitioners alphabetically by state and alphabetically by last name within the state.
  • When searching using the "Other" criteria as a selection in the "Case Types/Issues", the "Special Requirements", or the "Educational and Professional Experience" sections, anything the practitioner included as an "Other" on his/her application will appear in the Practitioner Profile. You will need to scan the profiles to see if any of the practitioners listed the "other" case type/issue or special requirement or education & professional experience you are seeking.
  • To make scanning the profiles easier when searching using the "Other" criteria as a selection remember that anything the practitioner included as an "Other" on his/her application will appear in the Practitioner Profile as the last item in the list in that particular section.
