Search Overview
Welcome to the U.S. Institute for Environmental Conflict Resolution's National Roster of Dispute Resolution and Consensus Building
Professionals. Please note that the right hand navigation bar lists a number of links to information to help you when searching and
choosing an appropriate practitioner.
From this site you may search for a Dispute Resolution or Consensus Building Professional best suited to your situation. To do so,
you can search by various selection criteria, which will result in a list of practitioners ordered alphabetically by state. You can
then access a more detailed profile for each practitioners. You must then contact the practitioner(s) directly, get additional
information and materials from them, check references and select a practitioner who best meets your needs. Please review and provide
to everyone involved in the selection process: "Choosing An Appropriate Neutral," available from the right hand navigation bar.
The search is an "and" search among categories and an "or" search within the categories that have choices. This means that if
you choose more than one category, the search will find practitioners who meet all the categories chosen (for example location and case
type experience). If you choose a category with additional choices (such as services) and then choose more than one (such as mediation
and facilitation) the search will find practitioners who offer mediation or facilitation, not necessarily both services. For
example: choose location and services; within location, choose a state; within services choose mediation & facilitation; search
results: all practitioners who are located in the state and offer mediation or facilitation services. When selecting
the type of case/issues with which a practitioner has experience, you can choose to make the search an "and" search so that you find
practitioners with experience in all the issues you choose.
If you click on the linked (typically underlined) search criteria or terms, specific instructions or definitions will pop up in
a new window.
You can search on any combination of:
- the state in which the services are needed/dispute is located
- the dispute resolution and/or consensus building services you need
- the type of case experience the practitioner has
- the scale of the case/controversy
- the geographic area in which the practitioner has worked
- special expertise the group may need:
- as a trainer
- complex cases with more than 10 parties
- language skills
- special project needs
- educational and professional background
- Or a practitioner's name
Click on the "search" button. You will make additional selections within the categories chosen and click "search." The roster search
engine will search the practitioner database and provide you with a list of practitioners who meet the criteria, ordered alphabetically
by state and by name within state. If the results of the initial search provide too few or too many names to be useful, you can
refine your search using categories already chosen (click "refine search") or you can do a new search (click "new search".)
From the list of practitioners, you may review the profiles of the practitioners identified in your search results. The profile
includes the detailed information provided by the practitioner in his or her application, including all the search criteria information
and other information, for example, highlights of case experience. Please remember that the Practitioner Profile is a starting point
and that the group must have additional information and materials from the practitioner and references before making a decision.
"Choosing An Appropriate Neutral," available from the right hand navigation bar, provides helpful information.
